I'm Brian Lerer. This is my daily politics podcast from WNYC Studios. It's Wednesday, September 22nd.

Call Your Senator, our monthly call in with my questions and yours for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand,

0:20.1

New York's junior senator, as the

0:22.1

label goes, though not so junior anymore as she's been in the Senate since 2009. It's just that

0:27.6

Chuck Schumer has been there since the last century. There is some news this week that relates to

0:32.9

1:15.6

So we'll talk about that.

1:17.1

I'm also curious how much money might come out of the defense budget to help fund the Democrats'

1:22.2

progressive priorities now that President Biden has ended the endless war in Afghanistan

1:27.3

and to reverse Donald Trump's military spending buildup.

1:31.8

Senator, always good to have you on. Welcome back to WNYC.

1:36.3

Thanks, Brian. I love being on your show.

1:39.8

And you're calling these the biggest reforms to the military justice system in U.S. history.

1:45.7

Want to explain them to everyone?

1:48.8

Yes, and you did a very good job yourself.
