This is from Emily Lynn Pulsin, who wrote a book about her MLM experience called Hey Hun coming out in the spring.

0:52.1

She said, was there anything culty about being on Glennon's podcast? For those who don't know, I was on We Can Do Hard Things, which was very exciting for me because I really like Glennon and Abby.

1:28.8

But Emily says she has what so many people describe as a cult following. And I know many people who are into empowerment journeys are into her. She's definitely somewhere on the culty slash girl power van diagram. And I agree. And this is something that, you know, we're constantly talking about in terms of what makes something culty. Culty in that people follow her and, you know, put her on a pedestal. Does she abuse her power? Not that I can see. Not that I can see. And, you know, of course, just because I can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But there's, you know, so far there's been no smoke or fires around Glenn and Abbey. And I think that they're good people trying to do good things. And having a cult following is in and of itself a problem. It's just what people do with the power when they have a cult following. Would you agree? Or anything to add to that?

1:32.2

Yeah, TV shows have cult followings, right? And I think a broader question that might apply to this is

1:37.6

how do people use content when they go on to look for a podcast or they go to the internet itself? Do you go to confirm

your own belief system and then find a like-minded group in an echo chamber and bubble? They have

1:51.4

their demographic and they have their lane. It's the same way we do in the cult space, right?

1:56.2

You know, if people want to come listen to our podcast because of our story and our wisdom, then maybe we've

2:02.0

earned it in that regard. But how they get online and go search their content is something that,

2:06.5

you know, it's difficult for us to be sensitive to. And if they have a little bit culty group

2:11.8

following, I don't think it's any fault of their own. And as much as they just produce a podcast

2:16.4

that people like to listen to. Yeah. And like Steve Hassan says, what happens when you leave? If people from the pod squad don't listen to Glenn and Abbey, are they going to be ostracized or shunned? I don't think so. Same thing with us. That's it. That's a key factor there. Okay, your turn, babe. Aaron's story. You both seem so well adjusted and able to put your

past cultiness in its rightful place. What has helped you the most? Being open and honest,

therapy, talking to others who have been through it, reading, or something else entirely.

2:45.3

I left a 19-year marriage that nearly killed me and practically robbed me of my soul. It's been

2:49.3

seven years since I started the process of leaving.
