In 1521, at the Diet of Worms, Martin Luther was asked to recant his writings.

Luther responded, unless I am convinced from the sacred scriptures that I am in error, I cannot and will not recant.

Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise.

God help me. Amen.

Our church and God. The numerical decline of mainline liberal Protestantism seems to have come upon us rather suddenly.

But what brought about that decline didn't start in the 21st century, started in the 20th century, really

the mid-20th century, which is why many are predicting that some of those denominations,

including the evangelical Lutheran Church in America, may not survive to the mid-21st century.

In the meantime, there are many parishioners and some pastors who are still holding out, hoping for reform in their church body, but some have found it intolerable, the departure from the truths of God's Word.
