Here we are, folks, back for round two of cultural artifacts. I'm here, Dr. Jemar Tisby, with my first

and my first returning guest, the Reverend G. Tyler Burns. What's going on,

fam? Brother, I am amped up. This has been an interesting past few days as we have tried to

finalize our list. So much is happening in the world. Bro, it's wild out here. And I'm trying

to choose art strategically, man. Artifacts that are strategic for the

moment. But this is a lot, man. You hanging in there? I am. But first of all, you congratulated me

last episode. Now I get to congratulate you. I saw on the gram that you and your father shared an

award. That's really cool, man. Tell us about that.

Yeah, so I have the privilege of sitting on the board at a local hospital, Baptist hospital,

and they have something called the Baptist Faith Health Network, and they gave out awards at the

end of the year for their partner churches and to the community. So they kept trying to get me to come to their Christmas party. And I was like, why am I coming to the Christmas party? I don't understand what's going on. So my sister was like, yo, they really need you at this Christmas party because I got to play for this Christmas party. I was like, what? You got to play? Like, she plays the piano. So I was like, oh, okay, cool. So I showed up, know everybody there. It was like, yeah, what's going on?

So they did the food, the awards. And then at the end of like, the last award is the signature award. And I'm just eating. I'm just like, you know what I'm saying? What's going on? Get that good banquet food. Yeah. And then they, they said, yeah, our signature award is for serving leadership. and we want to award that to both Burns.

So they talked about us for a minute. And so my father was there. He was like, why am I here? I was like, I don't know. I'm just, I guess we're here to support destiny. And yeah, so it ended up, we were co-recipients of the seven leaders for the award. They wanted to be the passing of the torch between generations, like Elijah and Elisha,

you know, like Abraham and Isaac.

They wanted to be like that vibe.

So I was honored and, man, what a joy.

My father means so much to me.

So to be able to share an award with him was a rare, rare honor.

That's a beautiful thing.

I can only imagine how it, how, you know, being surprised about it.

You know, they kept it under wraps.

That's one thing.
