If you're looking for a way to volunteer your time to benefit birds, consider Project Nest Watch.

Organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Project Nestwatch is made up of volunteers around the world who monitor bird nests, reporting whether the birds successfully

raise their young. Joining the project involves a bit of online training, finding a nearby

bird nest, and briefly checking on it every three to four days without disturbing the birds.

It's easy and fun to do,

and it helps scientists keep track of how climate change and alterations to birds' habitats affect their ability to raise their young. Thousands of participants in dozens of countries

help Project Nestwatch understand how bird parents are doing each year.

And the project's website has tips for finding bird nests, building nest boxes for a species of your choice,

and landscaping with bird families in mind.

Studying bird nests takes time and patience, so there's great value in many people making

the effort to monitor nesting birds.
