Hello and 10 Downey Street, the Building itself and the people who work there.

In this episode I speak to researcher and residence Jack Brown from King's College London

who's been looking to the history of the building and in particular the decision taken

60 years ago this month to dramatically rebuild Downing Street which was at risk of falling down

We'll discuss the big rouse behind the scenes about the cost and what it should look like afterwards why a cup of tea

It is a very exciting thing to become leader of the Conservative Party.

It shall be a government rooted in strong values,

This will be a new government with new priorities.

Her Majesty the Queen has asked me to form a new government and I have accepted.

So Jack we've just come through security, but we've basically got the view of Down Street

here roughly what people from the street can see but without gates in the way.

It looks like quite a small building from the front.

You can make out the fact that's a basic big gray box.

You can almost make out the door.

How much has that view changed over the years?

We've changed a tremendous amount.
