It was necessary for them to take responsibility for a major part of their life.

If they didn't, if they couldn't make their own decisions about their own sense of reality,

in significant ways, then they would have succumbed.

Today, very few people make many decisions that are really significant.

If they feel something's wrong, they go to a doctor.

The doctor frequently will tell them, this is your condition, and this is how to treat

it.

Not questioning any knowledge or any healing, and as a result, we've relied upon a pharmaceutical

model for all of our healing.

In fact, medicine doesn't mistrust nature, mistrust the person's own ability to have

their own healing experience.

Well, I think people are still responsible for their decisions, and they still make them

just like they always have, and they do it with insufficient information, just like they

always have.

It's just that the world's a little different now than, say, two million years ago, when

maybe it was a matter of, do we go down there with the family next door, or are we going

to stay up here in the canopy, or whatever?

I mean, the decisions that people make are important to their lives.

They certainly accede to authority a lot, but I think that's always been the, I don't

know if there's ever, there's no evidence in my mind for the time, you know, from anthropological

stuff that there weren't always rulers and people that survive.

We've always had a higher record, or even in the caves, we've had a higher record.
