This city is waking up to the morning after its tragedy.

A tragedy is still hard for the imagination to encompass.

And this will be a day of prayer in Dallas with all churches open.

And the prayers of Dallas will be echoed around the world.

The man who stands accused of killing the president

faces another round of questioning as local officials

try to break down his story that he's not implicated.

So far, there have been no incidents in the city.

But a common question that's heard everywhere is, why?

Why must Dallas bear the shame?

It's a city in a state of shock still

finding it hard to believe what it knows has happened in this respect Dallas

resembles the rest of the world but feeling it more personally the president's

death of course has tremendous implications on the domestic political and the

international scene but this morning in Dallas it's still the loss of John F. Kennedy as a man that fills the imagination

and turns the heart to prayer.

And now for a description, what happened at police headquarters.

stayed here overnight in the jail some two floors above me.

He was in an isolated cell.
