Part 14.

Imagine a storm system as you would see it from space. Do you see the eye of the storm? That strange,

open area in the middle of chaos and destruction? That is where I lived for a while. After everything

I had gone through, disappointing and worrying Audrey by leaving the safe house as I went along.

I simply settled in and enjoyed the break from the madness whenever I was alone with Usha.

This period of calm was an illusion, of course, perhaps even a delusion. Still, I was calm and happy for a while, especially after

Hope left, and it was just the two of us hiding in that apartment. It was bliss. I'm sure it's hard

to believe that we were just hanging out there.

Relaxing and having wonderful conversations, getting to know each other, and other things.

Still, that's what happened.

Usha and I had a couple of wonderful days together.

I managed to keep all the craziness out of that apartment. I locked the door, muted my phone, and just pretend that we were safe.

I guess you could say I did what I always did, right?

Oh, how slowly human beings learn. Or maybe just this human being?

Nah. Anyway, I did not find out how crazy things really were until our location was revealed,

and we were pulled back into the frenzy with everyone else.

Before that, I did get hints from the brief conversations I had with Maya.

I just never asked for more details.

Again, I won't get ahead of myself here.
