Pearson is the kind of small rural town

where little happens beyond the daily grind of agriculture. Life is predictable

and everybody knows their neighbors whose lives typically run like clockwork according to an

anticipated daily routine. February 27, 1993 was the day when a very predictable place was thrown into chaos.

14-year-old Greg Usley walked into his parents' bedroom with a 12-gauge shotgun and changed his life and the lives of all those around him.

It was not born of an impulsive act.

Usley had been descending slowly but surely into a state of despair.

He was alienated and desperate and sought liberation in the most misguided fashion imaginable.

To outsiders, the Osley family came across as normal. Joby was a hardworking patriarch, and his wife,
