Our guest for this podcast is Andrea Shoe, a Maya activist who will provide an overview of the protests taking place

and the demands of indigenous communities.

Since 2015, national protests throughout Guatemala

have symbolized a growing anger and mistrust

towards a historically corrupt and genocidal government

that has looked out for the interest of the oligarchs,

elites, gryoyos, gringos, and landowners.

In 2015, national strikes led to the resignation of then Guatemala and President Otto Perez Molina and other high-level government officials who were being investigated by the United Nations Anti-Corruption Unit, the International Commission against impunity in Guatemala or C.
