An entitled couple refuses to pay me for my entire time babysitting after their baby fell asleep within 20 minutes of me being there, as they claimed that I didn't do any work for the four hours I was there, and that according to them, I shouldn't get my full pay. I'm a 19 year old female and I babysit occasionally for a couple in my neighborhood. Now they are nice and the kid is sweet, so it's usually just an easy gig. Last weekend, they asked if I could watch their two-year-old from 6 o'clock p.m.

until 10 o'clock p.m., they asked if I could watch their two-year-old

from 6 o'clock p.m. until 10 o'clock p.m. while they went out to dinner with friends. Now, I agreed on the usual rate and I showed up at 6 o'clock. Well, by 6.20, the baby was already passed out in my arms after a bottle and a quick cuddle. I later in her crib and I didn't hear a peep the rest of the night. Literally just sat on the couch scrolling my phone for almost

four hours and checked the baby monitor a few times and that was pretty much it. They then came home at around 9.45 and they were surprised that baby had been asleep almost the entire time. That was when the husband half jokingly said, dang, maybe we should just pay you for like 20 minutes of work. And when he said

that, the wife laughed. Now, I left too at first, thinking it was just a joke, but then they handed me cash for one hour and said, honestly, we feel weird paying full price when you didn't really do anything. But I told them, I still came over and they still had their night out. And part of babysitting as just being there in case the baby wakes up.

But they didn't budge.

They said they'd make it up to me next time.

But I left feeling kind of taken advantage of. I didn't argue further because I didn't want to cause a scene. When I vented to my sister, she said they were being cheap and I was totally right to expect full pay. So seriously, I need to know. Am I the jerk for expecting full pay, even though the baby was asleep almost the entire time? Because right now, I don't know what to do. Okay, I want to first start off by saying that this post that we're talking about right now, not only came from our subreddit, but also it got 5 million views, meaning that a lot of people have seen this and a lot of people have commented on this. And just from scrolling through the comments itself, like, my God, everybody's in agreeance that these people suck. They are literally screwing you out of your money. Dude, there's no way this is okay. Because the original poster's right. Half the battle of babysitting is just being there in case something goes wrong or in case like the baby wakes up. So the fact that they're trying to be like, oh, I'm sorry, but you only did like 20 minutes of work. Like that's crazy to me. That is not what this is about. You're there as a safety net. If they really thought that, oh yeah, you didn't do much work, then you could have easily put the kid to bed and then gone home. Like that's basically what they're saying, right? And just because the kid was asleep, doesn't mean that you shouldn't get paid for the full time that you were there. So seriously, if you do plan on babysitting for them in the future, which I would never do that again, I would take the advice to some of the people in the comments where they're basically saying, like, you have to pay me in advance. Or even better yet, you say nothing until you get there. Then you say, look, you still owe me from last time and I need payment up front. Otherwise, this is just not going to work. And if they say no, then you just walk out.

And then they have to cancel their plans. But seriously, in my opinion, I would never work with these people ever again because these people are super cheap and you do not deserve that in the slightest. misspelled and it's not a problem. But I will correct people until they learn to spell it right.

I even have a trick to show how to really remember how to spell it.

Well, we got an arrogant CNA working with us for a while. She fancied herself as good as a nurse.

She wore a white coat, which by the way, very few nurses wear them anymore, demanded that nurses

give medications to patients without any background, berated other coworkers, talked down to families

and patients, and was entirely insufferable.
