Summary

Jessica Simpson defended herself this week after ex-husband, Nick Lachey revealed he and his family shared a six and half hour flight with Simpson in first class, while her family sat back in coach.  Simpson explained her mom paid for the flight as a gift, and that if she had purchased the tickets, her kids would’ve been sitting with her. Which brings us to our latest work trip this weekend to Bottlerock, where we screwed up the tickets and ended up with a middle seat back in coach. T.J. insisted his daughter sit up front, while he took one for the team. How does it work in your family?

Hey, that folks.

It is Saturday, May 23rd, and what's the big damn deal?

0:11.6

A parent can ride in first class and stick their kid in coach.

0:16.9

But when you're Jessica Simpson, well, the criticism comes swiftly and it comes pretty intensely.

0:25.1

With that, welcome to this episode of Amy and T.J., what is the big damn deal? Robs? What's the big deal?

0:32.4

I don't think it's a big deal at all because I will be very honest here right now. I have 100% done that before and people

0:40.4

may disagree with it. But it was funny when the news first came out that Jessica Simpson was sitting

0:45.3

in first class and her kids were sitting in coach. My youngest daughter, Annalise said, Mom, you

0:51.7

did that all the time with us. And I said, sure did. Okay. So if we just

0:56.5

start there, before we get into all how it came about, just hearing it on the surface,

1:01.0

does it matter when the parent has, in this case, not even a perceived, but a documented

1:08.4

amount of money in her account. She is listed as a billionaire. Is she not? Yes.

1:13.6

Okay. So does that matter? I respect it even more. Because you know what? She could. Obviously

1:19.8

she can afford to fly her kids in first class. She can probably afford to fly her kids on private.

1:25.3

But look, she has mentioned and has talked a lot about her

1:29.6

humble beginnings. And I think for many of us who grew up very similarly, we want, we can't,

1:36.1

obviously, give our children that hunger or that, that base of knowledge that we had of what it's like to struggle, of what it's like to

1:46.3

not be able to even afford to fly period, let alone fly in first class. And I do think that

1:52.2

she, along with many other celebrities, have talked about trying to not spoil their kids and

1:58.4

not have their kids believe that they just should expect to always fly first class,
