and our democracy.

His message has always been we establish unity by dealing with the crisis before us.

My hope is that we can get to real discussions about that stuff.

Instead of the spin of it all.

For better or for worse, the impact of the last four years of Donald Trump and the chaos

he has created is this intensity.

You know, it's like we were trained to check Twitter and to think the next New York Times

update was going to be life or death.

To me, that is part of the antidote to all of this rage.

It's not the complete antidote, but part of it is just more leadership.

More people willing to say, hey, this thing actually doesn't relate to that one.

I'm trying to focus on what COVID has revealed about our institutions.

Can you assume that what I've just laid out does not mean I hate you and don't want

to be in relationship with you if we disagree?

It doesn't mean this is the sum total of my perspective on this topic.

It doesn't mean I think I know everything on this topic and don't have more to learn.

Can we just build in a little disclaimer?

We get to see like we did during the convention, the beautiful diversity of our country geographically,

culturally, racially.

There will always be ideas that I don't like and a truly representative democracy.

You and I talk about expanding the number of representatives in the house pretty often.
