It's Joe Persson from the Athletic, and we bring him in because he's covered the Carolina

Panthers since, boy, I'm probably, you know, their nascent days.

Joe explained to me why in God's name Matt Corral was available after having

had a third round pick spent on him last year. Well, there's this person named Bryce Young that

the Panthers drafted number one overall. And it was Matt Corral's poor timing through no fault of

his own that a new staff comes in, led by Frank

Reich, of course, a bunch of quarterback whispers in the building to include Josh McCown.

Now Frank Wright, of course, played the position and coached it.

So they go with Bryce Young and Matt Corral, and coached it so they go with they go with bryce young and

matt corral and by the way they had had brought andy dalton in to be the veteran backup so

matt corral if they had snuck him through waivers would have been a fine practice squad player

he basically i mean not basically he missed his entire rookie year, got hurt at Gillette

Stadium, you'll remember the pre-season, Liz Frank.

So he really needs, this is his rookie year, you know, redux.

And the Panthers were cool with doing that on the practice squad, but not on the 53.

It's kind of interesting. In some ways, it's similar to the fourth round pick Bailey Zapi, who had more

extensive experience last year. But when you look at the skinny on both guys coming into the

league and into the draft last year.
