Hey, this is the moment. I'm Brian Koppelman. Thanks for listening. My guest today is Pam Houston, who is one of my favorite living writers and has been since her first book came out.

I want to talk about that she has a new book out called Deep Creek Finding Hope in the High Country.

It's a memoir, but it reads like the best fiction

and it does the thing to you that the best fiction does.

It lingers and it changes you and that's a thing that Pam Houston's work has

always done for me. We've known each other online for quite a while now but I've

only met once really, only spent time together once so it's a

thrill to be here with you thanks for coming pain my pleasure Brian nice to be here

so um I'm thinking a lot about where to start this conversation because I want to talk about Deep Creek but because the book which I read in basically a night and a half and you got a running commentary as I was reading it.

The book really is the story of what happened to you, finally understanding what happened to you when you were a person who was told that you weren't worth very much and finally the world gave you a different message and it took

you like 30 years to process it right? That's exactly right and in many ways this

book is you know kind of whatever happened to that Cowboys You know, so I think it's appropriate

to talk a little bit about cowboys more so

than any of my other books.

I think this book speaks back to that book.

Me too, it's an answer to it in a way.

And, you know, you say this thing and I think I'm going to

mention this to you it was amazing to me to read it you know so keb was came out

kavas and where we just came at 92 that's right and that's the year I got married. I was 25 years old and you say in this

book you say when that book came out a lot of people fell a little bit in love with me.

Right?

Yeah, that's right.
