They were my unsung heroes. I just want to say thank you.

Today's story comes from Pac's

Auslander.

When Pac's was 12, he moved across the country

from a small town in upstate New York to Los Angeles.

His new high school felt overwhelming.

He had grown up knowing all the other students, and now he had to make friends out of strangers. He felt

lost and alone. I would like go and sit in these huge lines and get in these huge

crowds and then I would climb up to the one new building we had on campus up like six flights

of stairs and I would sit on the highest flight of stairs and I'd like to sit there eating my food,

not really doing much with the time,

and just feeling exceptionally, exceptionally alone.

So I was sitting there for maybe two months and I had no idea what to do or how long this was going to last what was going to happen.

And one day this huge group of kids barrels up these stairs all seniors I was a tiny maybe a

hundred pound like five foot two child and one guy as they're like barreling up

these stairs notices me they're all heading to the roof and he

kind of like lags behind for a second and he comes up to me and he crouches down and I'm like

very clearly miserable and he sat down and he looked at me he
