In the middle of this breathtaking scene, you can almost picture a woman with a canvas and paintbrush carefully

capturing the beauty around her. That woman is Georgia O'Keefe, one of the most famous American

artists of the 20th century. Georgia O'Keefe was born on November 15, 1887, in a small farmhouse

in Sun, Prairie, Wisconsin. She was one of seven children in her family.

Even as a little girl, she loved to draw and paint. While many children might sketch for fun,

Georgia showed an unusual passion for art. Her family noticed her talent early on, and her mother

encouraged her to practice. By the

time she was a teenager, Georgia was already sure she wanted to be an artist. When she grew older,

Georgia went to study art in Chicago and New York. There she learned traditional ways of painting,

such as drawing still-life objects and landscapes in realistic detail. But Georgia

wanted more. She felt that art didn't have to look exactly like the real world. Instead

it could capture feelings, ideas, and the hidden beauty in ordinary things. She began to

experiment with shapes, colors, and lines in ways no one else was doing at the time.

Her unique style soon caught the attention of Alfred Stiglitz, a famous photographer and art

promoter in New York City. Stiglitz was amazed by George's work and began displaying it in his gallery.

He believed she was a groundbreaking artist. Stiglitz and

O'Keeffe later married, and he continued to support her career. Through his gallery, many people

saw Georgia's art for the first time, and she quickly became known as one of the most original
