Is there purpose for the pain and loss we experience?

That's been a question that Marie Cook has had to grapple with throughout her life.

As the mother of a special needs child, she's lived face to

face and heart to heart with the challenges of having a disability. She's been forced to ask

tough questions like, how do you process grief while holding on to hope? And how can God take

heartache and work it for good? If you've struggled with these questions, Marie's story

will help you believe hope lives, even in the shadow of grief. I grew up in Chicago. I was a city girl,

a hardcore Chicago city girl. And what was your faith background? You know, my faith background was I

grew up Ukrainian Orthodox, which, you know, for me,

I, it was a religion. You know, it wasn't a relationship with God. It was a religion. We would go to

church on Sundays and we would sit in masses that were three hours long in Ukrainian. That was every

week? Every week. And I didn't really understand the purpose of it.

It was just basically going because that's what we did because we were Ukrainian Orthodox.

I'm sure there was much more that was involved with that.

But as a child, that was my understanding, yes.

And it wasn't until I was 16 years old that my brother had just given his life to the Lord.
