Mandisa and I recorded this interview several weeks ago. It was before George Floyd's death.

I wish we'd had the opportunity to hear Mandisa's perspective, and I hope that happens in the

pandemic, an historic wave of mental health issues like depression and substance abuse.

For many of us, the behaviors that might

have helped us cope, things like being with friends and keeping busy with work or activities,

those things have been removed. More people are struggling with depression, but not many are

talking about it. Mandisa is different. She first came to fame while competing on American Idol,

and since then she's had

one hit after another. She's toured with artists like Toby Mac and won a Grammy for her
