I knew that I was going to ruffle people's feathers, speaking up against the teachings I grew up under.

I wanted to do so in a respectful way to help others, and at the same time, I felt paralyzed and fears.

God's story has been unfolding.

Since the beginning of time.

He invites you to be a part of it.

Hi, this is Meredith Foster.

Ginger Dugger Volo grew up on television.

From the age of 10 until she was 27, her family appeared on TLC's reality shows, 19 kids and counting and counting on.

As the sixth child of Jim Bob and Michelle Dugger, she grew up in a strict religious system, led by a teacher who claimed to speak for God.

That belief system contributed to a view of God as an angry judge, just waiting for her next mistake.

Motivated by a fear of rejection, she was driven to be a people-pleaser, trying to keep everyone happy all of the

time. But as she grew to know and understand God's love, she realized the loving thing to do

was speak the truth. So I was raised in a large family. I have 18 siblings. I was based in Arkansas. It was an unusual childhood

because my family had a reality TV show from the age of 10 until I was 27. It ended four years

ago. And all of those years, we filmed three to five days a week, had cameras in our

house. And so it was a different kind of life. We were also raised in a setting where we followed

a teacher who claimed to speak for God, but didn't. His name was Bill Gothard. He taught a lot of

legalistic principles that he claimed were the word of God, and they actually weren't. And so my previous book,
