What's going on Packer fans?

0:20.6

Welcome into another edition of the Packaday podcast. podcast. I am your host, Matt Freilich, alongside me, the one and only, Lily Zow. Lily has covered the Packers in Wisconsin Sports for many, many years. She is now currently out of Fox 6 out of Milwaukee. Lily, happy to have you on Pack a Day podcast and talk some Packers with you.

Yeah, this is great. Thank you for having me on. I think it's a long time coming, but I'm happy to be on. This is so fun. It's been a long time. I know friend of the program, been on with Andy in the past, and it seems like a good time to just catch up on the 2025 season. We'll kind of start there, I think from Labor Day and to, we'll call it middle of January, just an absolute roller coaster, right? Like the Micah Parsons trade breaks,

1:02.0

first two weeks of the season, Super Bowl bound, odds are looking great. They defeat the Lions,

1:07.6

defeat the Washington commanders, and then just roller coasters, you know, injuries, disappointing loss of the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, whatever that game was, it was a tie in Dallas.

1:21.9

But and then just, you know, many, many hurdles along the way were just on the back half of Jonathan Gannon getting hired or replaced, replacing Jeff Hathlet at D.C. Matt LaFleur gets an extension. So maybe by spring, we'll know what that extension looks like. We know the Packers keep everything close to the chest. But I guess as you, I know, you cover the team in the locker room, in the press conferences.

1:46.4

What was the vibe you got around the team this year?

2:18.9

Was it the same on the outside of 1265 where it was some roller coaster or did they kind of know they had a great team? And it was like, damn, we just, all these injuries stacked up. Like, what were the vibes when you're in the locker room? Yeah. I think, you know, early in the season, you know, I remember, you know, you know, where you like those days where like something big happens, you just remember where you were. Like I remember where I was when the news broke that Mike Parsons was getting traded to Green Bay. I was covering the brewers. I was in the dugout. And I said, you, what? So jaw on the floor. You make that addition. I think everyone at that time was saying Super Bowl or bust, or at least a deep playoff run or bust. First two weeks play out like they should.

2:27.2

Again, it's so early in the season, you know, you believe that Detroit and Washington will be

2:31.7

good at the very end like they were the season before.

2:35.4

But like you said it, I think a run of injuries, just their inability to close, their

2:40.7

just crazy way of finding unfathomable ways to give up games and give them away.

2:47.5

Just kind of really kind of bit them in the butt this season.

2:49.6

I think it was a very promising

2:50.9

season. I think had Tucker Kraft, Devante Wyatt and Mike Parsons not gone down, we could be talking about, you know, a team that made a deeper push in the playoffs. We could be talking about a team that could have competed for an NFC North title, but alas, it is what it is. You know, these guys went down and the Packers weren't able to, you know, make a run at the end.

3:10.2

And that was unfortunate.

3:11.3

You know, you end the year and the playoffs with five straight losses.

3:14.3

So I think a lot was on the line this year with the team they had.

3:18.8

And I think it was a team that had they stayed healthy, could have been really good.
