In April 1973, one of the greatest, some say the greatest artist of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso, died.

I've been talking to someone who knew him, Anthony Penrose, whose parents were Picasso's friends,

the American photographer Lee Miller, the British artist Roland Penrose, who was Picasso's biographer.

My very first memory of Picasso is when I was just over three years old and he came to a home at

Fali Farm House in Sussex and he smelled of Golwa cigarettes and rather a tangy soap or
