Imagine you're a child from Spain more than a hundred years ago.

You love to draw so much that your very first word isn't Mama or Papa.

It's Piz, short for Lappas, the Spanish word for pencil.

You draw on paper, on walls, anywhere you can. Your name is Pablo and your whole world

is full of pictures. Your father is an art teacher and one day he hands you a brush. From that

moment you know you're an artist. Imagine you're nine years old, painting your first real picture,

a man riding a horse in a bull fight. By the time you're

13, your father says you're better at painting than he is. At 14, you take an art school exam

that usually takes a month to finish, and you do it in one day. In regular school, you get in

trouble for doodling. But when they send you to detention,

you secretly enjoy it. Why? Because the room is quiet and perfect for drawing. That was the real

Pablo Picasso, one of the most famous artists in the world. He was born in Malaga, Spain, in 1881,

and loved drawing from the time he could hold a pencil.

He once said, every child is an artist.

The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

Picasso's full name was super long, 23 words. It included lots of names from saints and family members. But Pablo Picasso is what everyone called him.

His dad taught him to paint and helped him get into great art schools when he was still very young.
