Hey what's going on guys? Welcome to episode 44 of the Physician

0:03.8

assistant boards.com podcast. Today we're going to be talking about

0:07.2

essential tremor. So let's get right into the different or the disorder of essential tremor and what is tremor exactly?

0:16.4

Well tremor is rhythmic and oscillatory movement of a body part that's it it's just

0:22.3

the body part moving That's it. It's just a body part moving back and forth and what happens is you're having

0:26.6

contractions of antagonistic muscles. Now the tremor can occur in a few different positions, right? We can have resting tremor, we can

0:35.4

have postural tremor and we can have tremor with intention. Now the resting tremor

0:41.3

occurs when a patient is sitting down or the body part specifically

0:47.2

we're speaking about is you know in a resting position to work they're not moving, they are not up against gravity, it's

0:55.0

somebody is holding for example the arm or they're sitting down and their arms are

1:00.3

by their side and they're not moving. That's resting. Postural or action. They actually

1:06.2

combine these two terms here and postural actually means if you're holding the body part against gravity.

1:14.7

So for example, if you try lifting up the patient's arm or have the patient lift their arm in front of them,

1:20.7

that is postural because they are holding their arms up against gravity.

1:26.0

Now with postural there's also action tremor.

1:30.0

Action tremor means you're actually moving your arm, as you're moving your arm, you have

1:35.3

tremors as well.

1:36.6

As you're moving, you know, whatever, your leg, a certain body part, as soon as it's moving

1:41.6

and you start to have Tremmer, is action tremor and we're going to

1:44.4

classify or clump those two together so if we have resting and we have postural and

1:49.7

action and the last one is with intense right intention tremor now intention tremor

1:54.8

actually worsens with action the differences with postural or with the action tremor
