Diagnosing and treating headaches can definitely be a problem, especially for the physician assistant student. That's not to say that even practicing clinicians breeze right through it. But, today we'll go over how to diagnosis and how to treat these patients. It's not as scary as you might think!

Now headache to me was something that I struggled with. I remember the first patient,

or one of the first patients that I actually came in contact with

as a student was somebody presenting with a headache.

And it was something that I struggled with because it was something that I was scared to miss right I was scared of missing something bad like a tumor

I was scared of missing something like a stroke so it was it was a little difficult for me to really, you know, kind of

trust the things that I've learned without worrying about all the bad. And that's normal.

That's something that should be going through your head because you want to do it your best, you know?

But I'm going to tell you, the majority of headaches are benign.

The majority of headaches are not caused from tumors, strokes,

subarachnoid hemorrhage,

AV malformations.

The majority of headaches are classified as

either migraine headaches, cluster headaches,

or tension headaches,

and probably the most common is going to be tension headache,

but the most common headache that presents to you in the clinic

is probably going to be a migraine.

That isn't to say that you need to just forget about all of the bad or all of the other secondary causes of headache,

but you need to know that the majority are benign, right? So trust in which you know,

trust in your history taking, trust in your physical exam, because there are a few
