What is going on everybody? Today we're going to be talking about back pain and specifically we're going to be talking low back pain and I want to give you guys

Pearls today on how to approach the patient who comes in with low back pain because this is a very

common complaint and it's estimated that about 80% of people will have at this complaint at

least once in their lifetime.

Now the good news about a patient coming in with low back pain is that most of the time

there's nothing to do.

90% of these patients are going to resolve on their own within four weeks.

So today we're going to be talking about possible red flags.

Do we need to order any labs test, any lab testing?

Do we need to do x-rays MRI what are the indications for

these imaging studies what are the indications to do testing are worried about

cancer or worried about infection abscess astuteomyelitis, for example.

So let's quickly go over some clinical purls on how to approach the patient with low back pain.

Now let's get some quick definitions in here, right? We're going to

separate the low back pain into acute, subacute, and chronic. The acute back pain is

going to be anything less than four weeks.

Subacute is going to be anything between four and 12 weeks.

And then finally we have the chronic back pain patient.
