Summary

This is the final episode of season 3, and it features a couple of really in-depth research reviews. After some Good News and Feats of Strength, Eric takes a deep dive into a commonly-held belief in the evidence-based fitness world, and discusses whether or not getting lean will enhance your ability to gain muscle by improving your insulin sensitivity and increasing your p-ratio. After that, Greg has an excellent review covering the topic of ischemic preconditioning, followed by a Q&A segment in which Greg and Eric answer a couple of common questions with some very practical applications. Content warning: In Greg’s research review, he discusses research that was carried out in dogs. If you love dogs as much as Greg and Eric do, this might be upsetting, and you might want to skip that part of the show. If so, please skip the discussion that occurs between 1:07:16 and 1:09:56.

It's commonly said that you should get lean before you do a muscle gaining phase. The idea is if you get leaner you'll become more insulin sensitive. This will increase your P ratio and potentially

the hypertrophy that you achieve during the subsequent

muscle gaining phase. In the research review segment we look at all the

evidence for and against that concept.

After that, Greg does a research review segment

0:35.5

all about the concept of ischemic preconditioning.

0:39.2

After that, we do a quick Q&A segment

0:41.1

where we talk about a few very applied, very practical questions and that

0:45.0

wraps up the episode which is the final episode of season 3.

0:49.4

So we are going to take a little break after this episode but we will be back better than ever.

Welcome back to the Stronger by Science Podcast. This is your one and only host Eric Trexler, but today I am going to be joined by a special temporary guest co-host. His name is Greg Nuncles. Greg, thank you for joining me today. Yeah, thanks for having me. I was surprised and delighted by the invite.

1:18.0

Absolutely. Well, last time you did a great job I got a lot of really good fan mail and so I said hey we'll bring him back again and see if

1:26.2

1:29.6

we'll see how it goes

1:32.0

Now this is going to be our last episode of the season.

1:35.2

We're going to be taking some time off. You know, a little bit of a break and then

1:40.7

focusing on getting some written content done. So that's going to be cool. Rest assured, we are going to be working very hard for the stronger by science audience, making sure we get some stuff put together. So yeah, hopefully this will be a good episode. We'll take a little

1:55.2

break and then we'll be back. Before we get into the content and the good news and stuff today,

I do want to do, it's not a selling out segment because in a way it's almost
