Summary

Time to talk about therapy again. This is the third episode of Owning It The Anxiety Podcast in which I explore therapy, this time supported by Better Help Online Therapy (more information on that below). With the help of the wonderfully articulate Haesue Jo - a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in the Bay Area, California, and Head of Clinical Operations at BetterHelp, we talk about the ways in which online therapy differs from in person therapy, what barriers we need to overcome to normalise therapy, what to look for in a therapist, how to know if it's working for you and SO much more. This is a really comprehensive dive into the world of therapy with lots of practical information. BetterHelp. Hello, dear listener and welcome back to owning it, the anxiety podcast. In my last season,

0:28.8

I promised you another episode focused on therapy and this is it. From sharing on my Instagram stories

0:34.0

about my regular therapy sessions, as you may know, I recently went back to therapy

0:37.7

and it has been such a gift to myself. I've gotten so many messages from people, first of all,

0:43.6

thanking me for normalising therapy as part of my well-being, but also asking me for more information.

0:49.0

I'm pretty open about these things and I am passionate about owning our experiences, but I was

0:53.3

kind of shocked by the

0:54.2

amount of people struggling with shame around therapy, the fear of asking for

0:58.4

professional help and also a fair few misconceptions around therapy itself.

1:03.2

For me, therapy these days is really like going to the gym for my mind, but there was a time

1:07.4

when it was something I did to help get my head above water, when I was really struggling with panic attacks and living in my own anxiety-induced isolation.

1:15.5

Therapy has been there for me when I've been in a bad place,

1:18.0

and also there for me when I'm in a good place, wanting to keep myself feeling well.

1:21.9

I think it used to feel a bit mysterious, a bit out of reach for most of us,

1:25.4

and something you really have to put a lot of effort into, even just to get linked up with the therapist in the first place.

1:30.3

Today, that's just not the case.

1:32.3

Thanks to the likes of Better Help, an online therapy platform,

1:36.3

therapy has become accessible, affordable and convenient.

1:39.3

It's becoming part of our regular self-care maintenance, and I for one am thrilled about it

because we all have
