I was reading a little bit earlier in the year some stories about Earth's core, stopping,

slowing, reversing.

I'm sure you've seen those same reports.

What does that exactly mean?

Is it important or just a curiosity that perhaps the Earth's core has stopped spinning?

Yeah.

So the first thing is kind of, as we like to say in physics, it's what is your reference frame?

So what they mean is that the Earth's inner core has stopped spinning relative to the surface of the Earth.
