Today we wanted to share a beautiful episode of what next, Slate's Daily News Show.

It features a conversation between host Mary Harris and Arkansas pharmacist Gwen Herzig.

Gwen is a trans woman who testified to the Arkansas General Assembly, sharing her

perspective as a medical professional only to be asked about her genitalia.

The what next team wanted to know what happened after Gwen testified and how the experience

felt to her.

If you know Gwen Delan Herzig's name, it's probably for a really awful reason.

Our reason should rather forget.

But before we get into one of the worst moments of Gwen's life, let me just back up, explain

who she is.

Gwen is a trans woman, also a pharmacist, lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.

And like a lot of queer people, she got into her car and drove to her state capital this

year to offer testimony.

I'm going to go ahead and call this to me if you disagree to order.

In Gwen's case, she was testifying against a bill known as SB199.

This bill extends malpractice rules, allows trans kids who regret their transition to sue

their medical providers decades after receiving treatment.

Practically, it's a way to narrow the pathway to gender affirming care.
