You're going to be. Hello everyone welcome to Outward. I'm Christina Kauderucci, a senior

writer at Slate and today we're talking about the Democratic nominee for president, Kamala Harris.

So ever since Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed Kamala, I don't know about you, but I have

been noticing a new feeling of hope and possibility and

dare I say fun in a lot of queer circles about this election.

I saw on Instagram, some gay guy I know

posted a video from a party in Fire Island.

And the DJ had sampled the audio

from Kamala accepting the nomination at the DNC into I think it was a

chapel Rhone song and everyone just went absolutely nuts which I think captures the

vibe right now in a lot of spaces.

But you know, even though Kamala is looking like a much better candidate maybe than she

did in the 2020 presidential primary, this little, you know, brat summer burst of enthusiasm for her I think has a lot more to do with

the fact that she is neither Joe Biden nor Donald Trump and less to do with her actual

record or platform.

Because if you remember that 2020 primary, like I do,

you might remember the line of criticism

that Kamala Harris was bad on trans rights. I remember seeing this from, for example, the

ACLU lawyer, Chase Strangio, who wrote at the time that she had contributed to

some of the most violent conditions faced by trans people.

But S.I. Rosenbaum and Josie Reisman have written a piece in Slate that complicates that narrative a bit.
