The dog sledding community is guarded, maybe because the sport is under fire, and maybe

because nobody else knows what it's like to do it.

Okay, here's the example I use.

When you're a virgin, sex is very interesting to you.

You think about it a lot.

You might even say, practice or watch a movie.

But the bottom line is, you don't really know what it is until the pants come off.

Running a thousand miles is like that.

You can watch all the movies, you can read the books, you can, but it is an experience

that is really so intense that it kind of has to be earned.

But a few months ago, I got a tip.

A tip that took me to one of the coldest big cities in America.

My snot's freezing.

And inside the tight knit world of competitive mushing.

A couple of them, if it gets down to negative 30, negative 40, we'll bring them into the

shop.

Everybody else does.

Just fine.

I wasn't just there to learn about mushing.

I was there because, ever since 2019, a drama here has been playing out behind closed
