In 2016, I received an email, dear Marlo, it read,

my name is Anna, and I'm in Italy.

I'm the mom of a gender-free kid who seems to be the only one in the whole country.

She was a single mom, like me, who was looking to connect with another parent of a transgender child.

You know, Italy is a difficult country to deal with such topics. The Pope is watching us every day.

She found me through the podcast that I make about my life with my young daughter.

A daughter I once thought was my son.

I'm looking forward to receiving her answer and I hope some people understand our kids are just kids.

My daughter is now 13, and she told me that she was not a boy when she was just three years old.

My princesses.

Your princesses things? Do you think it's okay for boys to like princesses?

But I'm a girl.

When I started on this journey, like Anna, I felt so entirely alone.

I couldn't find any stories about kids like mine or parents like me.

And so I felt compelled to tell our story, to show the world that we do exist,

and we're not the only ones.

Now I feel happy that they understand.
