If your confidence is small, that your sin problem is solved, or that you're not really

accepted with God or that he's not on your side and that maybe the

Savior who died was not a sufficiently dignified Savior to carry the weight of what this

death carries then you're going to be in of what gives us confidence in the face of our sin that Christ is our source of eternal salvation.

That's the question John Piper answers from Hebrew 5 4 to 10

in this episode of Light and Truth.

This sermon was originally preached at Bethlehem Baptist Church on September 22, 1996.

I want to hang the insights about Jesus Christ today on three words.

And the words are dignity, eternity, and purity. And I know that there that they're big words for children and almost no children are in this room right now,

but I'm going to tell you what I said to the children in the first hour, because what I have found

is that most of the time when I address the children, that's the time the adults understand me

best.

And so what I said to them was that wise children say when they

hear a big word, Pastor John sure uses some big words, and I don't understand them all the time, but I'm glad

Pastor Don doesn't use words that I understand because then he would have to leave out some important things in the Bible and I wouldn't grow as much in my understanding.

That's what wise children say.

However, since there are always words that people don't understand and we need to work at communication,

I will explain the meaning of dignity, eternity, and purity. But first let me put on the table the main point of this text.

It's in verse 9, you can look at it, as I understand the flow of the argument in verses 4 to 10,

verse 9 is the main point where it says, he that is Christ became to all those who obey him the source of an eternal salvation.

Christ has become the source of an eternal salvation, salvation from sin and guilt and condemnation and death and hell and Satan and life of meaningless labor.

Christ is the source of everlasting or eternal salvation. It will never ever ceased. We are now in Christ and will be forever saved from all these destructive forces.
