Dear young married couple, Yale University did a fascinating study recently. Researchers had people come into the

0:07.3

psychology building, and as they're walking down the hallway to the lab, they accidentally asked

0:12.4

participants to hold their coffee for a moment while they gathered some papers. Half the people got handed

0:17.2

a hot cup of coffee. The other half got an iced coffee, and the participants

0:21.5

had no idea that this was part of the experiment, they just thought they were being helpful.

0:26.7

And then, in what seemed like a completely separate task, they asked these people to read a brief

0:32.0

0:38.4

So people who held the hot coffee rated the stranger as being significantly warmer,

0:46.7

0:49.4

And then the people who held the iced coffee rated the same exact words, the same exact profile,

0:57.2

the same person as being cold and less generous.

1:02.0

That is interesting.

1:04.0

1:04.2

Think about that.

1:05.1

30 seconds of holding a warm cup versus a cold cup literally changed how they perceived

1:10.6

another human being.

1:12.1

So get this and we want to emphasize this today. Their physiology, what they were physically

1:17.1

experiencing, directly shaped their psychology, how they thought and felt. And guys, this is

1:23.4

happening to you every single day and you may not even realize it. So how you hold your body,

1:30.4

what you put in your mouth, if you're moving or sitting still, it's all influencing your thoughts,

1:38.0

your mood, your decisions, and how you show up in your marriage. Which means you have way more control than you think.

1:45.7

Yes, yes.
