Summary

Stoners, it’s our first ROCK STAR! Gavin Rossdale of Bush joins Sorry We’re Cyrus—and let’s just say, we cover a lot. From music and cooking to rescue dogs and mental health, the legendary Bush frontman gets deep for some down-to-earth convos with Tish and Brandi. Gavin opens up about his new album, calling it his most honest and vulnerable yet—shaped by personal growth, healing, and everything life’s thrown his way. He also shares one of his favorite fan stories: one of those moments that shows just how powerful music can be.

We also get into Gavin’s love for cooking (especially FOR his kids), how that unexpectedly led to a TV opportunity, and the meaningful conversations he shares with guests over a good meal. Throughout the episode, Tish finds herself weirdly aligned with Gavin—from music and parenting artists to his show concept... basically twins, except he’s a Scorpio and she’s a Taurus.

And to wrap it all up, they play “The Boring Game”—the new name for “What’s the Tea?” (because there’s no weed, no stakes, and it’s barely a game according to them).  Whether you’ve been a Bush fan from the start or just came for the dog stories, this one’s packed with heart, humor, and some rockstar magic.

Gavin's new album 'I Beat Loneliness' out everywhere July 18th - now available for pre-save/pre-order. On tour Worldwide in 2025!

You gonna intro this way?

I was gonna say, there is nothing more than I loving a rock star. Oh, I know. I mean, forget it. Like, we've had a lot of people on the show. I was literally thinking, is Gavin our first rock star? Yes. Hey, y'all. I'm Brandy Cyrus. Hi. And that's my mom, Tish Cyrus. Actually, Tish Cyrus for sale.

Whatever.

0:23.3

Sorry we're Cyrus.

We love getting to talk about music.

Welcome to the podcast, Gavin.

Thank you.

If you live under a rock and don't know, Gavin is the frontman for the iconic band Bush, part of my childhood, honestly. But you also have a new show called Dinner. That's a cooking show. So, but thanks for coming. Tish is very excited. So, stuff. Thanks. I'm excited too. It's beautiful to be here. Thank you. I come from a music family. We both have been around music for so long. It's great to be able to talk about music with someone else. I love hearing people's story about how they got started, especially when it was from a young age. And I would just love to hear from you, like, where your inspiration for music, you've, like, came about and how you got

started and how old you were.

1:13.2

You know, it was a weird one because I was always in love with music, and I did that thing.

1:18.2

Malcolm Gladwell talks about it, that record shop up the street from my house.

1:22.6

So anytime I'd get any money for chores from my dad, I would go up and I'd buy records, you know, from like an age of

1:29.5

13. And I didn't really think about ever being in a band because no one in my family was musical,

1:34.0

right? So I just had this kind of, I lived in a reasonably kind of rough area. So no one was really

1:40.5

into the music I liked when I was getting into it. And so the kind of music that I liked when I was playing football or soccer growing up, you know, the people didn't like that much, David Bowie, that sort of thing, then all the punk world. So it was like this almost like a secret world for me, listening to that kind of music. And then when I left school, I was thinking, I didn't really want to get a job.

2:03.9

I feel like that's the motivation for a lot.

2:05.9

I was like, what can I do that's, you know, I can apply myself to.

2:08.8

I'm not going to be like, you know, so I just thought, why don't you try and be in a band?

2:12.7

And at about 14, my sister's boyfriend was in this band.

2:16.0

And I had been the, you know, helping put stuff into rehearsal rooms like stinky, dark, beer smelling, stale, terrible rehearsal rooms, cold. And I love them. I love the energy, you know. And so I used to help him. He gave me a bass, but I didn't really start playing.
