Live. Live. Live with the studio. So it's fall, dude, what are you excited to grow?

0:28.0

So in terms of excited, I'm really excited for Brussels sprouts. They're actually something that I like growing because it is challenging.

0:38.0

It's not, it's challenging because usually it's a very long season crop and it's kind of too warm here.

0:44.0

I had some success with it last year and what I've really learned is that if you want to have good Brussels sprouts, you really have to look at the right variety for your zone.

0:54.0

So last year I had two different kinds. One was a longer season, one was a shorter season. The shorter season one actually gave me a pretty decent amount of Brussels sprouts. The longer season just kind of didn't really work out.

1:06.0

So it really makes a really critical difference. If anyone's curious to try growing something like Brussels sprouts, I'll say first choose the right variety for your zone.

1:16.0

So like Hestia, I believe is the one and Gladius that I'm trying this year. They're both like 90 to 100 day.

1:24.0

And there's a lot of things that you could do to help produce more sprouts. Like you could top them just like you would like a tomato.

1:30.0

And by just basically cutting off the top, you're going to make them produce more.

1:34.0

So I'm really excited to get a lot of Brussels sprouts because I really like the flavor and also cauliflower.

1:40.0

So I'm going to try to grow some really big cauliflower this year. One lesson that I learned from last year is that I didn't give them enough space.

1:48.0

So this year I'm not going to try to be intensive with my planting. I'm going to just kind of let everything have the space that it really needs.

1:56.0

I'm weirdly excited to grow brassicas. I've had a lot of struggles with them because for me, it seems like growing them in spring, I just have a lot more trouble.

2:06.0

And so although it's possible, I just I can't figure it out very well in our climate.

2:12.0

And so I'm actually excited to get if I can get big heads of cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, I'd be really excited and really pleased.

2:20.0

I would like like to get Brussels sprouts as well. So I'll lean on you as part of varieties there. I know a couple of friends here who it seems like when you're growing a brass kind of warm climate, it really is about variety selection.

2:30.0

Yeah, absolutely.

2:32.0

There's no other way around it and timing the like it's one of the crops in our world where timing really seems to matter.

2:38.0

And so yeah, I'm excited about that. I'll be doing way more garlic.

2:44.0

So I ordered a quarter pound of 14 to 15 varieties at least. I want to say so I don't know how many cloves a quarter pound is, but it's, you know, it's going to be a decent amount of garlic.

2:56.0

It's a healthy amount of garlic. I'd love to plant at least 200 cloves this year.
