Hello, I'm Carl Raymond, the host of the Gilded Gentleman History podcast, where every two weeks we journey into worlds light and dark in America's

Gilded Age, France's Belle-Poc and England's late Victorian and Edwardian eras.

When we look at some of history's most important and influential figures about whom so much has been

written, discussed, and analyzed, we tend to think, well, what else is there to know? But then,

sometimes something almost magical occurs. A new letter, a diary, a document surfaces that sheds new light on what we know

and opens the door for even deeper understanding. And this is just what happened to scholar,

writer, and historian John Cooper, and the subject was Oscar Wilde. In his meticulous ongoing research, John did

indeed discover something new, and on a topic for which Oscar Wilde was justly famed, the subject

of dress and fashion. I could not be more excited to have John return to the gilded gentleman table today here with me

to talk about his discovery and bring us even more of Oscars wit, frank opinions, and brilliant

social commentary.

I could not be more honored and grateful to have John Cooper return to the show and join me here today. John knows the life and work of Oscar Wilde as very few do. John is a historian

and independent scholar who has spent over 30 years in the study of

Wilde. He is the researcher, author, and designer of the extraordinary website, archive, and blog,

Oscar Wilde in America. He is a long-standing member of London's Oscar Wilde Society and a founding

member of the Oscar Wilde Society in America.

John lectures and writes extensively on The Life of Wilde, and his work has appeared in Os Scholars and the Wildean.

John joined me for our show Whitman and Wilde, Oscar Wilde in New York 1882, to which I encourage you to have a listen

if you haven't yet. John has just published a revised edition of his book, Oscar Wilde on dress,

which features Wilde's long-lost essay and much additional material. John, I am so excited to have you back at the table with me
