Every job is a grind sometimes, there's spreadsheets, there's expense reports, PowerPoint presentations,

or there's playing the Phantom of the Opera on the organ over and over and over again.

I try to make it new every night, I try to reimagine the arrangement I play.

Sometimes, I'll play it in a different key, it just keeps me on my toes a little bit.

I always breath as telling people about my job with saying that you have to see it and hear

it to believe it, but I just tell them that it's a large restaurant that seats the better

part of 1,000 people, and it has the world's largest, real answer, theater, pipe organ.

And I play requests from the audience all by wall, and people just sort of look at me like

I'm from out of space.

Today, a trip to organ stop pizza in Mesa, Arizona, where you come for the pipes, but you

stay for the pepperoni after this.

I'm going to be honest, from the outside, organ stop pizza looks a little bit like a sad

casino.

It's right off the highway, it's this huge building with 40 foot ceilings and no real windows.

But when you walk inside and sit down with the 700 other people in the cavernous dining

room, this sad casino kind of transforms into some sort of literal theater of the absurd.

An American flag hangs on the wall under a disco ball, neon lights flash in rhythm with

the music, curtains part, and a trio of marionette cats begins to dance.

And then the largest theater pipe organ in the world slowly rises out of the floor on a

rotating hydraulic elevator, perched on that 8,000 pound organ console, nearly 10 feet

above all the people eating their pizzas, sits the person who brings the room to life.
