| 1:46.0 | I am talking about Dan Lannning. Dan, I know you're locked in. I appreciate making time. How you doing? How's your week going, Dan? Doing great, Jim. How are you, man? Dude, I appreciate you. Thank you very much for doing this. All right, so you're doing well. How about your team? How about your staff? Do you like what you're seeing from them this week heading into a big, big matchup at State College? Yeah, I think there's a lot of excitement in the building, a lot of excitement on the practice field. Guys have the juice and energy. I mean, this is what college football is all about. And our guys are pumped to take advantage of an opportunity. All right. So bring me up today, Dan, four games in. I think that's a pretty good sample size. Specifically, what have you seen so far that pleases you most about this group? And then maybe what have you seen that you might want to clean up? Yeah, biggest piece. I mean, walking into the season, we didn't have a lot of experience. And we didn't necessarily have a lot of leadership, you know, coming back. And the development of leadership, the growth from an experience standpoint has been really impressive to me. And this is one of the years. I've been a part of it a couple of times in my career where you talk about strength and numbers. You have a lot of guys that can play winning football. It's not just 11 guys on offense or 11 guys on defense. In our first three games, four games, we played over 60 people in each one of those games. |
| 1:51.0 | You know, over 66 people, I think, in each one of those games. |
| 1:53.0 | So that speaks to the volume of players that can play winning football for us, which is really exciting for me. |
| 1:59.0 | Oregon head coach, Dan Lanning joins us. So, Dan, Oregon's tremendous tradition of quarterbacks was on display. Bo Nix led the Broncos against Justin Herbert's Sunday against the Chargers. So that brings me to this. What do you make in the play so far from your QB1, Dante Moore? He had four touchdowns Saturday against Oregon State. He backed up Dylan Gabriel last season. What do you think about what you've seen from him so far? He's playing clean football. He's giving us a chance. Every time the ball snap, there's an enormous amount of trust that we have. And Dante, and the decisions that he's making reminds me of a lot of great quarterback play that we've had here, you know, at Oregon. and the poise, the composure, the ability to create in really difficult moments he's done an unbelievable job of, and that really goes back to preparation and confidence. You know, he's thrown the ball to a lot of different people. You know, I think at one point, I don't know if this is the case, but we lead the nation and guys with multiple touchdowns as far as distribution of why. It's not just one person that he's throwing the rock to. And I think that goes back to his decision-making. The coverage dictates who you throw it to, not necessarily the play call. And Dante's done a great job of that. See, I was going to say, Dan, I was going there next. I was going to say that outliers aside, most quarterbacks are often as good as the playmakers that they're surrounded with. That said, I was going to say, how pleased are you with the production of this group of wide receivers, which also includes a great tight end in Kenyon's Hedek? Yeah, I'm really happy with them. They're all ready for when their number's called. One of the things I'm most pleased with our wide outs this year is how they block when they don't have the ball, right? These moments that they've realized that they can create juice and enthusiasm on the sideline with their energy when they create an explosive block down the field. And that's how you create explosive plays. So we've got a really good group. Kenyans obviously having a phenomenal year, Jamari Rogers, some of those other guys in the tight-in room were doing really, really well. And then the run game's been there to compliment it, |
| 3:59.0 | which is a big positive. Hey, Dan, I'm so glad to use that word juice. I was going to ask you, I mean, you have it, obviously. You know it when you see it, but here's my question. Where does juice come from? How do you create juice no matter who you are? We're all in search of juice. |
| 5:04.3 | Where does it come from? How do you create juice, no matter who you are? We're all in search of juice. Where does it come from? It's got to be intrinsic, man. There's some people that are extrinsically motivated, and there's some people that wake up every day saying, what a blessing, what an opportunity, let's go attack. And I'm definitely wired that way. Like, to get to do what I do every day, there's a million coaches, man, that could be coaching in Oregon football that are deserving, that have worked really hard and we do an unbelievable job if they're here. So I'm never going to take that for granted. And I challenge our players to do the same, right? Because there's a million people that would love to play at Oregon and play football here as well. Dan Lannning joining us, making time for us. Listen, while you lost defensive tackle Derek Harmon to the NFL, as the Sears' first-round picker defense has yet to give up more than two touchdowns in any game. In fact, you held Oregon State to only 43 yards in the second half. So what do you see on that side of the ball? What's working over there? Really good communication. You know, I always talk about 11 guys playing the same call. It's tough. It's complicated in defense. When you have checks, adjustments to motions, we've got to have 11 guys on the same page. And it starts with communication. That's been really good early for us in the season, and that's got to continue. |
| 5:23.3 | And then relentless effort, the way you chase the ball, right, tells everyone how much you care for the people around you. Yeah, Dan, you look at it. You were undefeated in conference play last year. You tack on another Big Ten win this year. Listen, I'm not saying any of this is easy. None of this is easy. But what's been the biggest challenge of joining a conference that has produced the last two national championships? |
