I feel one of the inheritances we've gotten on our birthright as black women is to build and have rich community.

There is nothing like beautiful friendship.

Nothing in this world like having people in your corner that you can call up,

that you can have deep conversations with, that you can have silly conversations with,

that you can rely on to be honest

with you that you can lay your head in their lap and have them hold you when you're in pain

that kind of love and that kind of friendship is one of the most beautiful things on the planet

and we all know when we have friends like that right i have is one of the most beautiful things on the planet.

And we all know when we have friends like that, right?

I have people whose names are popping up and coming to mind,

even as I speak these words to you.

And we may not have a dozen of those friends,

but we should have at least a couple of those people in our lives that are in our corner and that are our support

system. In contrast, we also know what it's like when we don't have even and meaningful

friendships, when we have painful connections with people where we're locked in toxicity
