I want to talk about two ways that people become locked in this battle with struggle.

And I also want to talk about how you can opt out of struggle

by doing a very brief inventory of your life and seeing the areas that you may be locked in

struggle and talk about ways you can exit that. The concept of opting out of struggle came from the many conversations I have in my

life with the people I love and particularly the women that I love. And what became clear to me as I was

having these conversations and then even my own experiences was that oftentimes so many of the conversations I was having

were all about struggle, whether it was constant disappointment in romantic relationships,

dramatic friendships, struggles at work, struggles at home, struggles with family, struggles internally with

ourselves. It felt like we were always having these conversations about the struggle.

I talked before about my favorite saying used to be the struggle is real. And it really felt

that way for me. And I began to ask the question, is struggle our

cultural inheritance? Is this kind of our legacy that we get? I think about the famous quotes I've

talked about before, about black women being the mule of the world, or about the myth of the
