now. I want to say this, pretty women wonder, where my secret lies. Pretty women wonder,

where my secret lies. I tell them it's in the reach of my arms. It's in the span of my hips,

it's in the stride of my steps and it's in the curl of my lips because I'm a phenomenal woman.

So phenomenal that sometimes I walk into a room just as cool as you please and to a man they either

stand or they fall down on their knees and then they start swarming all around me. I have a honeybee's

I say, whoa must be this fire in my ass. Maybe it's the flash of my teeth, the swing of my waist

or just the joy in my feet. I don't know. All I know is I'm a woman, phenomenally phenomenal,

phenomenal woman. And men themselves they've wondered just what it is they see in me sometimes.

They try so much but they cannot touch this inner mystery and when I try to tell them they still

can't see. They say I say to them, it's me a phenomenal phenomenal woman that's me and that's you.

That's you. When you see me walking it ought to make you proud because I'm a phenomenal woman.

It's the bend of my hand, the palm of my hand and the need for my care, phenomenal woman.

That's me and that's you and a few phenomenal men.

My homage to my beloved Maya Angelou. She wrote that poem in 1978.

And I started reciting that poem in 1978 because I grew up reciting Easter pieces and

poetry by African American women and when I discovered that poem in 1978 I didn't believe I was

a phenomenal woman. I spoke it into being. I spoke it into being. And what I wish,

what I wish I knew then is the power of speaking into being. And what I want for each of you

when you leave here today is to be able to claim the essence of the phenomenon that is your life.
