The Paris Olympics are off to an ominous start.

Just hours before the opening ceremony later today, France's high-speed rail network was hit with

coordinated arson attacks that has severely disrupted traffic along three train lines

according to the National Railway. It advised travelers to postpone their

trips if possible and canceled many trains. About 800,000 travelers will be impacted due to disruptions

that are expected to last through the weekend until Monday, not the kind of

news you want to wake up to, especially with the opening ceremony coming later today.

The timing could not be worse because not only is it the day of the opening ceremony, it's also

the first day of the Grand Depart, which is this key date for Parisians to begin

their summer breaks. Lots of city dwellers leave for the countryside for most of

August leaving Paris to the tourists. Obviously it's a unique year with the Olympics coming to town but

now people can't get out of town after the attack so just hope everything goes

smoothly and they can get these repairs done because it should be a joyous day
