This came after I left city council so I don't know all the details but I've asked cops about it

And I love cops but sometimes I will have disagreements not often but it happens

over civil liberties issues. We had these red-light cameras in Houston when I was on council and when it was first brought forward

the technology as I understood it and as I was briefed the technology as I understood it allowed, the algorithm would allow for if you

entered on a yellow which is legal it would not snap you as

having committed an offense and so I was a yes vote and the red light cameras were installed and it was a big government issue.

It was. And it was a big government issue it was and but I was looking at the data and I was looking at things we could do to make the city safer and there's always the struggle of safer versus

Liberty and often they compete.

Complete and absolute safety is being locked in a prison cell because then nothing can happen

to you.

Absolute liberty can look like anarchy or chaos.

So there is a balance in a civilized society.

The more densely populated, the tougher the balance, people in a rural

community tend to leave well enough alone. I regretted it. I was, I was, what is the

guy with 30 children that he had I was young and ambitious I was young I was probably I was everything that I accused people to be in now in that I had rocked the boat on a lot of issues and I felt like this was something that I could work with under certain terms and if it was okay so the red light cameras go in and

immediately we start hearing from people that the red light camera is tagging people who did not technically was not technically

an infraction so they set up cameras to show people where you could get a

ticket and it turned out it was an absolute money grab to show people where you could get a ticket.

And it turned out it was an absolute money grab.

And so I led the effort, there were others, but I was among the leaders of the effort.
