I was thinking the other day of the year I spent living in Washington, D.C. right after college.

I was doing a year-long internship which resulted in some pretty cool professional opportunities.

In terms of time, I had more freedom than I have ever had since.

I used it to explore the city, go to a lot of museums,

read through a list of the greatest novels of the 20th century, and so forth.

In retrospect, that all sounds pretty idyllic.

But as I think more carefully about it now, I recall that I had plenty of angst at the time.

For one thing, my take home pay was $1,200 a month and I am not that old.

So I was thinking about money or more specifically my lack of it a lot.

I was single at the time and went on a lot of dates but many were quite terrible.
