Hi, I'm Samantha and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Thursday. So as I mentioned in a previous

episode, I've worked with children for a long time and though I care deeply about all

of my clients, I've had especially meaningful connections with some children in particular.

The children who have left the most lasting impressions on me are the ones who made

me reflect on my own childhood experiences and the intense feelings that I had as a child.

But there was one in particular that I'll never forget and I'll just refer to her as

Annie. So Annie was 11 and her parents told me that she had been regressing. She wanted

to sleep in their bed, be carried like a baby, and even cuddled after baths. And when

I met with Annie and asked her about how she'd been feeling, she started to cry. She

said that she was afraid to grow up and that she missed being a small child. And I was

so struck by her insight and I immediately had this memory come to mind of a time when

I was her age and I struggled with the exact same existential terror. I remember crying

too and telling my mom that I didn't think I'd ever be able to handle being an adult.
