What a week it's been, what a weekend it will be this week on Not Sam Wrestling we preview the evolved 10th anniversary show we preview fight for the fallen we preview extreme rules i'm gonna let you know what i've got going on this week plus we're gonna take a retrospective look back at ECW one night stand 2006 alongside tom phillips this is not Sam wrestling.

Oh yes here he is thank you mr. Finkel welcome to Not Sam Wrestling and uh yeah it's a busy time i think it's you know we talk about this every week it's a busy time for wrestling and it feels like it's only getting it busier as things start to pick up i think you know this summer is all about

driving up to one of the busiest most unique fall seasons we've had in this world of wrestling since the mid 90s you know you're talking about a new promotion debuting a new television show you're talking about WWE making the move over to network television with smackdown on fox and possibly rebranding and re strategizing a lot of the way they do business it's uh it's wild and right now we're right in the thick of it uh a lot of wrestling to happen this week.

And so there's gonna be a lot to talk about in the state of wrestling as well as a lot to review that happened this week you know it felt like raw was changing two weeks ago and then oh or I guess last week and then this week you're going well maybe it's not so much changing but there are still things happening it's a weird time it's a very weird time but we'll be here to cover all of it here on not Sam wrestling uh speaking of raw this week if you guys were following along with me on social media you know you're gonna be able to see it.

I know that I was out there in Newark uh doing some commentary if anybody's got hulu main event airs on hulu every Thursday I believe is when it gets posted I think in the United States that's the only place to get the up to date main event episodes I think the WWE network gets them several weeks late but if you've got hulu in the United States I don't know how it airs internationally but in the United States if you've got hulu uh then check it out on Thursday I'll be doing commentary on the United States.

I'm gonna be on main event alongside Renee Young and Byron Sackston absolutely having the time of my life.

I was also if you go to the WWE's YouTube channel on Sunday they put out an episode of a brand new show called Reimagined where they kind of uh go into a parallel universe where what happens if a thing that we never thought would happen actually did happen and how different would everything be for the first episode they look at what would have happened.

If the undertaker had gone to WCW in 97 98 and actually had the match with sting when both guys were at their prime right there during the the prime the peak the pinnacle of the Monday night wars uh it was a fun thing to do obviously the undertaker would have never done that but it was a fun.

Kind of fantasy booking thing to do uh one of the projects that I've talked about over the past few months that was filmed here in the not Sam studio that I thought you guys would enjoy and I still think you would enjoy it so if you haven't seen it yet uh I'm a big part of it uh and super happy by the way to be a big part of it it was just fun you know sit down for an afternoon and just talk about what would happen if the undertaker gone to WCW well here's what I think and there's so much dude I mean you guys know by now if you listen to this podcast.

I have a tendency to ramble on when it comes to wrestling so you can only imagine how much footage there is on the cutting room floor of that undertaker sting project but I like the way it came out I came out looking really cool really different from what WWE usually does so check that out over on the WWE's YouTube channel and other social media platforms as well as of course main event this Thursday uh you know I'm thinking so it's going to be a busy weekend I'm going to try to fit in the way I'm going to do it.

I'm going to try to fit in some kind of a bonus show over the weekend whether it's it won't be to celebrate extreme rules I don't think because I'll be in Philadelphia for extreme rules I'll be a part of that kickoff show on Sunday um so I won't be in the not Sam's studio but on Saturday I should be here unless I leave for Philadelphia I should be here on Saturday so maybe I will do a bonus show about either the Valve 10th anniversary or fight for the fall in the AEW show uh let me know I'm going to do it.

You know uh several weeks back uh I sat down uh with Mike Johnson from PW Insider and the two of us kind of uh talked nostalgicly from a fan perspective about the build up to ECW barely legal why it was so cool what it was like uh that video by the way is available already it's been available for a long time on the patreon page and it will be up on the YouTube channel soon youtube.com slash not Sam.

Uh but after that aired um and I said that it was something I said on the podcast it was something that I wanted to do more to to dip into those old old shows and kind of just wax nostalgic as a fan about the time period and the build up in the significance of what was happening and all that uh a bunch of people reached out uh that are you know just big wrestling fans but also in the wrestling business uh and thought it would just be a super fun thing.

To be a part of and one of those people was Tom Phillips the voice of WWE Smackdown and I said Tom uh whatever show you want to do I mean I'm you know without sounding too egotistical without making it seem like I'm more of a wrestling nerd than I actually am I said Tom I believe that whatever show you pick I will have seen uh and have some kind of knowledge uh on and be able to be retrospective about the show.

I was like I was like I'm not sure if I was going to be able to do it in some way shape or form and he said what about ECW one night stand and I said this is perfect because we're approaching extreme rules it's going to be in Philadelphia you know the the home of ECW and extreme rules as a paper view is what one night stand became I believe they did I want to say three it might have been four but I want to say three one night stands they did two ECW one night stands they did one W

and then it I believe after that it turned into extreme rules and that's where we are right now so it's perfect timing to do it I said Tom let's talk about it let's go over it and I said I assume did the show you want to do is ECW one night stand 2005 and he said well not I want to do 2006 and I said really cause the conversation that we always have when we talk about those one night stand shows I mean I remember uh I was super excited I was for the first ECW one night stand and that first show is the one and two

that so many people point to as being one of the best paper views of all time as being that special night in 2006 I said okay you know that's the show you want to do that's the show you want to do I think people are a little bit sour on the 2006 edition of one night stand because that is the paper view that ushered in the WWE branded ECW show which ended up being a failure and certainly was not the easy way to do it.

And I think it's one of those things that people will enjoy hearing about and I feel like this conversation will probably push a lot of you to turn on the WWE network over the weekend while you've got time I'm going to do it again.

I mean you got three paper views basically they're not paper views but three basically three paper views happening this weekend so while you're not watching AEW or evolve or extreme rules I'll bet you'll end up turning on ECW one night stand 2006 after this conversation it's what we're breaking down this week on not Sam wrestling I am taking a look back at ECW one night stand 2006 alongside Tom Phillips the voice.
