A more interesting holiday with much better food begins tomorrow.

First, suddenly after a month of nasty runoff election campaigning and a nail-biter of a vote,

Brazil's leader was revealed.

Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, a left-wing former president, beat the incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro,

just.

Lula, as he's widely known, will take the helm on January 1, bringing a program of reforms

aimed at undoing lots of Bolsonaro, the hard-charging, controversy-cording, Amazon-rain-forest-stripping

ways of Mr. Bolsonaro.

The departing president has been ominously quiet about the outcome so far.

But even if he accepts his loss gracefully, not at all certain given the seeds of electoral

doubt he's been sowing for months, Lula has a tough job ahead.

Mr. Bolsonaro's party still has plenty of power in the legislature, and the followers

of Bolsonaro may yet have more to say about their razor-thin loss.
